Before I was myself you made me, me.

6th June is My Daddy's B'day. I called home tonight to wish him and it left me sad, and homesick. To hear the worry and happiness in his voice at the same time! i kept the phone after giving him a lengthy explanation of whats up with ma life...he needs to know this everytime i call home! after the phone, I kept thinking of how the days are passing by...each getting older...and things happening all the time...A lot of things went through my mind...and i ponder on...Who is a Dad?

To me a dad is someone who wants to catch you before you fall but instead picks you up, brushes you off, and lets you try again. A dad is someone who wants to keep you from making mistakes but instead lets you find your own way, even though his heart breaks in silence when you get hurt. A dad is someone who holds you when you cry, scolds you when you break the rules, shines with pride when you succeed, and has faith in you even when you fail... thats my Dad, He is everything a dad should be and some.

Before I was myself you made me, me
With love and patience, discipline and tears,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,
Allowing me to sail upon my sea,
Though well within the headlands of your fears.
Before I was myself you made me, me

With dreams enough of what I was to be
And hopes that would be sculpted by the years,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,

Relinquishing your powers gradually
To let me shape myself among my peers.
Before I was myself you made me, me,

And being good and wise, you gracefully
As dancers when the last sweet cadence nears
Bit by bit stepped back to set me free.

For love inspires learning naturally:
The mind assents to what the heart reveres.
And so it was through love you made me, me
By slowly stepping back to set me free.

Dad, to you I write this poem
Wishing I'd spent more time with you alone,
So if you hear me, Dad
I hope I never made you sad
.

Dad, There isnt a day that goes by that I don't think of you. Thinking of you gives me the strength to overcome the challenges that i have endured..

You are amazed by the woman I've become, supportive of the woman I want to be. A man always there through thick and thin, I love you with all my heart and more than words could convey,

Dad, I'm glad you're mine, have a wonderful Birthday.
