My Buruni Experience Day 1 and 2
Sigh... Buruni is heaven...
I could stay here forever..
the people, the ocean, the width of the island is just perfect for my soul..
The world volunteer's day was celebrated here today and
it was fun and tiring taking part in the activities with the community..
carrying burrow full of branches just slain to death.. :S to and fro to
the waste management centre.. but i had to say that it kinda gives
you a weird sense of acheivement in just taking part...
doesnt really fit the usual kinda laid back sunny side of life frame... ;)
Funny how the cheif kept saying over and over again at the meeting
last night about how he wants the community to take part in planting
more trees and the next morning he breifed them on how he wants
them to actually cut down part of the trees on the island and infact
cold bloodedly surpervised in butchering a tree!!!! :o OMG!!
poor 'hirundhu' tree!!
(well, all he wanted was to clear the way for the ambulance anyway...)
Yesterday was a backbreaking day... stormy weather on the way from
Laamu to Vilufushi and again back to Buruni...
choppy waters almost plunged the gulf craft into the ocean... scarey!
and all through the trip I tried very hard not to notice how Paul, Sue
and Clare were trying to read their very respectful novels... *rolls eyes*
I was hoping Paul wouldn't get a migraine from trying to follow those
font size 2 letters through out the bumpy experience...
Sue however, finally gave up, goggle eyed and tried to catch some sleep..
wise!
By the time we reached Buruni I was sore from head to toe..
but was too excited to take any rest and hung around till Darren
and co's meeting were wrapped up.. and that was around 23:30!!!
Jonathan and his partner were trying not to relax too much incase
they fell asleep in the meeting!! :S
But oh boy! the cheif just couldn't resist himself and started snoring
in the middle of Darrens presentation on Sewerage choices.. lol!
And poor Barry was stuck between too sleepy Island cheifs...
pity the man and christmas is just round the corner!
Kept Shalini awake till 01:00... puffing away on our smokies...
sitting very relaxed on the joali in the backyard...
and suddenly a misterious phone call shatters the silence..
it was none other than Muhaimin, who it seems were
trying to locate us somehow... (despite us living under the same roof) :S
We assured him that we were very much in the same house as him
and that we were fine. Scared the shit outta us really! :p
