We Finally Did It!

We finally did it! Following our Dictators latest call for democratic reform through constitution change and of him seriously suggesting changes to the constitution which would limit his powers and permit political parties to be formed in the Maldives...

This evening an MDP (Maldivian Democratic Party) session was held in Male and a gross 74 members attended openly.(and no arrests made yet...) Kudos to all who attended! This is one major step forward for us in MDP as we have long since been fighting for reform and freedom of expression and association. The feeling is both of skepticsm and joy..and we are celebrating!! With time we hope that more supporters would come out openly, with more democratic beliefs and ideals. This calls for celebration in a big way for all political parties who beleive in democracy and reform... I, for once was in a state of shock when I heard the news from my colleagues...(There I was watching a horror flick and horror of horrors when I finally returned to it whatever horror factor was there was totally nil...) All I can say is enjoy the freedom while it lasts and make good use of it, 'cos you never know when the devil may strike, so be ready for it..always!

MDP held a meeting openly in Male???!! took the living daylights out of me for real!! what next??!! I still cant beleive it....
